Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)

Doorways offers four different Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) for 13 to 18-year-olds in the Phoenix area.

In the Intensive Outpatient Program, you receive services primarily through group therapy. Groups are small and generally do not exceed 10 people, allowing for a safe and supportive environment.

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

If outpatient care (for instance, weekly counseling sessions) is not providing enough support or structure to help decrease impairing mental health issues or behaviors, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) may be recommended.

How Doorways IOPs are Formatted

IOP treatment is offered 3 days per week at Doorways in a group setting. The number and types of groups that meet will vary depending on the specific areas that are being treated.

These groups provide education, therapeutic processing, and group activities. The IOP is designed to encourage the use of specific skills to lessen the negative impacts of current overwhelming struggles.

Being in a group format for adolescents and young adults can be very powerful as a way to identify that they are not alone in their struggles and to provide social support from peers.

Individualized Treatment Plans

All clients who engage in IOP receive individualized treatment plans tailored to meet their unique needs.

An IOP allows adolescents to receive treatment that fully addresses their needs in a less restrictive environment than that which is offered in partial hospitalization programming (PHP), residential or inpatient treatment

Why Do We Offer IOPs?

Doorways is committed to providing the best, clinically proven, research-informed treatment for 13 to 25-year-olds. And we work to provide our services in the least restricting environment possible.

We have seen IOP treatment make tremendous differences in the lives of adolescents and in their ability to live full, healthy lives.

Our IOPs provide more structure, support, and accountability than strictly outpatient services and can.

They also provide a transitional step-down process to outpatient therapy for someone completing a recent hospitalization or residential treatment program.

What IOPs Does Doorways offer?

Eating Disorder IOP: This program is for teens struggling with Anorexia, Binge Eating, Bulimia, excessive weight loss, severe “picky eating” or other nutritional problems

OCD/Social Anxiety IOP: This IOP addresses the obsessions, compulsions, and social fears that keep an adolescent from being able to function in a full academic or social life

DBT Skills IOP: This IOP is designed for teens who have experienced self-injury, had suicidal thoughts or actions, have dealt with chaotic or traumatic situations and are often disconnected from others.

Substance Use Disorder IOP: is for 13 to 18-year-olds caught in an addiction or substance use cycle that is causing significant problems in daily life.
